"Ghost Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend" é uma canção do estilo country. Foi escrita em 5 de junho de 1948 por Stan Jones. A melodia (não a letra) apresenta uma forte semelhança com a canção irlandesa do século 19 contra a guerra: Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye. A canção conta a história de um cauboi que tem uma visão de animais de olhos vermelhos, com ferraduras, num movimento atroador, varando os campos do céu, sendo caçados pelos espíritos de caubois amaldiçoados. Alguém o adverte que se ele não modificar seus hábitos, será condenado a juntar-se a eles para sempre tentando alcançar o rebanho do Demônio através desse céu sem fim. Jones disse que ele tinha uns doze anos quando tomou conhecimento da história por um antigo cauboi seu amigo. A história se assemelha ao lendário "Wild Hunt" do norte da Europa. Mais do que 50 intérpretes gravaram versões da canção, inclusive Frankie Lane, Bing Crosby, Johnny Cash e Spike Jones. Gene Autry cantou essa música no filme "Riders in the Sky", de 1949, filme esse dirigido por John English (1903-1969), tendo como artistas principais Gene Autry, Gloria Henry, Pat Buttram, Mary Beth Hughes, Robert Livingston.
